Privacy Policy

Effective Date: February 7, 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to Critical Mass Terminal ("we," "our," or "us"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it through our compliance with this policy.

This Privacy Policy describes the types of information we may collect from you or that you may provide when you visit the website cm-term.com (our "Terminal") and our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information.

Core Principle: Data Minimization. We operate under a strict philosophy of data minimization. We do not require user registration, and we do not collect Personally Identifiable Information (PII)—such as names, addresses, or phone numbers—unless voluntarily provided by you via direct communication.

2. Information We Collect Automatically

As you navigate through and interact with our Terminal, we may use automatic data collection technologies to collect certain information about your equipment, browsing actions, and patterns:

  • Log Data: Like most websites, our hosting provider (Vercel) collects standard log files. This includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks to analyze trends, administer the site, and track user movement in the aggregate.
  • Local Storage: We utilize your browser's localStorage to persist your workspace preferences (e.g., sidebar width, last viewed ticker, or module layout). This data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our backend servers.

3. Analytics & Cookies

We use Google Analytics to understand how our tools are used and to improve the engineering of our financial models.

  • Cookies: Google Analytics uses "cookies"—text files placed on your computer—to collect standard internet log information and visitor behavior information in an anonymous form.
  • IP Anonymization: We have activated IP anonymization features in Google Analytics. This means your IP address is truncated before being stored by Google, preventing the data from being used to identify you personally.
  • Opt-Out: You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser. Furthermore, you can prevent Google's collection and use of data (cookies and IP address) by downloading and installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

4. Financial Data API Integrations

Our Terminal relies on external APIs to provide financial and economic data. Specifically, we integrate with:

  • Alpha Vantage (for equity data)
  • Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) (for macroeconomic series)

When you execute a query (e.g., searching for a ticker symbol or calculating WACC), the specific query parameters are transmitted to these third-party providers to fetch the requested data. We do not share your IP address or user agent string with these providers beyond what is technically required to establish the HTTPS connection.

5. Non-Affiliation & Independent Status

Critical Mass Terminal is an independent, private research initiative.

This platform is developed solely for educational and research purposes based on engineering first principles. It is not affiliated with, funded by, or representative of any government agency, sovereign entity, regulatory body, or commercial financial institution in any jurisdiction.

Any views or analytical outputs generated by the software are algorithmic in nature and do not reflect the official position of any organization.

6. Data Security

We have implemented measures designed to secure your personal information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. All data transmission between your browser and our servers is encrypted using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology.

However, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we do our best to protect your data, we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted to our Terminal. Any transmission is at your own risk.

7. Changes to Our Privacy Policy

It is our policy to post any changes we make to our privacy policy on this page. If we make material changes to how we treat our users' information, we will notify you through a prominent notice on the Terminal's home page. The date the privacy policy was last revised is identified at the top of the page.

8. Contact Information

To ask questions or comment about this privacy policy and our privacy practices, please contact us via the feedback mechanisms provided within the Terminal application.
